Part 6 of the Chakra Series
Welcome to Part 6 of our chakra series, where I explore each of the seven main chakras, their unique qualities, and how they influence your well-being. Part 5 provided an overview of the fourth chakra system. If you missed it, I invite you to read it now.
My goal for this series is to help you become more aware of your energetic body. I am humbled to create a platform for self-exploration and self-reflection to help bring balance to your overall energetic state. I am grateful for your participation!
The Throat Chakra:
Your Center of Communication

Our journey through the chakras continues upward, from focusing on love toward others and oneself, to now exploring communication, self-expression, and creativity through sound. Say hello to the throat chakra, or Vishuddha, located centrally at the neck. Known as our “purification to communication,” the throat chakra highlights the importance of purposeful thought and speech that bring value to our interactions.
This chakra typically develops between the ages of 28 and 35. It is associated with the element of Ether and represented by the color blue. When in balance, it supports harmony with others, increased self-awareness, and creative expression. Understanding the qualities of the throat chakra offers insight into how it influences your power of choice and personal expression.
Identifying Throat Chakra Imbalances
The state of the throat chakra affects how we express emotions and communicate our truth -- to ourselves and others. Working with this chakra helps us recognize the power of honest self-expression and the courage it takes to speak from the heart.
Here’s how the throat chakra may show up in various states:
Excessive Energy (Spinning Too Fast):
Behaviors: Over-talkative, dogmatic, self-righteous, arrogant
Emotional Impact: Difficulty expressing needs, overly critical, emotional outbursts
Blocked Energy (Spinning Sluggishly or Not at All):
Behaviors: Holds back from self-expression, unreliable, inconsistent in viewpoints
Emotional Impact: Difficulty speaking up, lack of honesty, unable to express one's truth
Balanced Energy (Equilibrium and Proper Vibrational Flow):
Behaviors: Good communicator, content, easily meditates, artistically inspired
Emotional Impact: Feels empowered to voice one’s truth and needs; builds deeper connections
Ways to Support and Balance Your Throat Chakra
There are many ways to restore and maintain balance in the throat chakra. Here are a few suggestions to help you nurture this energy center:
Dietary Support
Eating grounding and nourishing foods supports the throat chakra. Focus on fruits.

Essential Oils and Incense
Scent can powerfully affect the chakras. The following oils support throat chakra balance:
Chamomile: Calms and soothes the throat, enhances communication
Myrrh: Reduces inflammation and supports healing in the throat
Blue Tansy: Promotes clear communication and authentic self-expression
Eucalyptus: Invigorates and opens up the throat chakra
Crystals
Crystals aligned with the throat chakra can support clarity and connection. Try:
Turquoise: Boosts confidence in self-expression, eases public speaking anxiety
Sodalite: Encourages truth-telling and harmonious communication in relationships
Sapphire: Supports clarity and honesty in communication
Aquamarine: Aids in flowing, open expression
Physical Movement
Movement helps energy flow through the throat chakra:
Sing or chant aloud
Practice yoga with heart-opening poses like Cat-Cow or Shoulder Stand
Journaling Prompts
Reflection builds awareness. Consider these questions:
Do you feel you are meeting your own needs? How could you shift your communication with yourself?
Why is it important to be a patient and attentive listener?
How do you communicate in group settings? How much do you listen versus speak?
Affirmations and Mantras
Positive repetition helps reprogram energy.
Affirmation: “What I have to say is worthy of being listened to.”
Mantra: Chanting HAM during meditation or yoga helps activate and balance the throat chakra, encouraging self-expression.
Meditation
Meditation calms the mind and invites chakra awareness. Visualize yourself lying under a warm sun with a light blue sky above. Feel a gentle breeze on your neck. As you breathe deeply, your body softens into the grass beneath you.
I’ve created a four-minute guided meditation to support you in this practice.
In Closing

Balancing the throat chakra is essential for reducing stress, building self-esteem, and enhancing relationships. By engaging in these practices and tuning into how you feel, you may discover a deeper sense of security, vitality, and connection to life. Healing is a journey, and awareness is the first step.
What are your favorite ways to feel connected?
I’d love to hear about your experiences in the comments!
