Part 7 of the Chakra Series
Welcome to Part 7 of our chakra series, where I explore each of the seven main chakras, their unique qualities, and how they influence your well-being. Part 6 provided an overview of the fifth chakra system - the Throat Chakra. If you missed it, I invite you to read it here.
My goal for this series is to help you become more aware of your energetic body. I am humbled to create a platform for self-exploration and self-reflection, helping to bring balance to one’s overall energetic state. I am grateful for your participation!
The Third Eye Chakra:
Your Center of Intuition
Our journey through the chakras continues upward: from the throat chakra (representing communication and self-expression through sound) to our center of intuition and inner knowing. Say hello to the third eye chakra, or Ajna, located above and between the eyebrows. Serving as our connection to higher consciousness, the third eye chakra reminds us that everything we see, hear, smell, touch, or taste began as an inner vision, or “in-sight.”
Some sources do not associate the development of this chakra with a specific stage of life, as spiritual growth and awakening can occur at any age. Others suggest it develops between ages 35–42.
Anja is associated with the element of light and represented by the color indigo. This chakra supports the ability to “see” beyond the physical and perceive subtle energy, symbols, and inner guidance. Understanding the qualities of the third eye chakra, and how to bring it into balance, can provide insight into its influence on your intuition and inner wisdom.
Identifying Third Eye Chakra Imbalances
The condition of the third eye chakra impacts our ability to quiet the mind, trust our intuition, and transcend the physical world to access inner wisdom. When balanced, it supports us in recognizing the limitless knowledge available within ourselves, without relying solely on others for answers.
Here’s how the third eye chakra may show up in various states:
Excessive Energy (Spinning Too Fast):
Behaviors: Highly logical, dogmatic, authoritarian, arrogant
Emotional Impact: Obsessive thinking, vivid nightmares, disconnection from the external world
Blocked Energy (Spinning Sluggishly or Not at All):
Behaviors: Undisciplined, fears success, sets sights too low, tendency toward schizophrenia
Emotional Impact: Lack of clarity, anxiety, disconnection from intuition
Balanced Energy (Equilibrium and Proper Vibrational Flow):
Behaviors: Charismatic, intuitive, unattached to material things, may experience unusual phenomena
Emotional Impact: Self-trust, clarity, self-awareness, balanced decision-making
Ways to Support and Balance Your Third Eye Chakra
There are various practices and tools you can use to restore and maintain a balanced third eye chakra. Below are some suggestions to help you nurture this foundational energy center:
Dietary Support
Darker blue-toned foods: blueberries, purple grapes, and plums are often recommended for their potential to stimulate the third eye chakra.
Essential Oils and Incense
Scents have a powerful effect on energy centers. The following are particularly helpful for balancing the third eye chakra:
Hyacinth: Promotes a sense of connection to something greater than oneself
Violet: Invites deep calm
Rose: Embodies divine love and helps open the heart through prayer and meditation
Geranium: Awakens intuition and supports mental clarity
Crystals
Crystals that resonate with the third eye chakra’s energy can help you feel more connected and secure and include:
Amethyst: Known as the “stone of meditation,” offers calming and protective energy
Azurite: Enhances intuitive abilities and promotes trust in insight
Clear Calcite: Encourages spiritual insight and appreciation for intuition
Purple Fluorite: Known as the “stone of discernment,” balances logic and inner knowing
Color Visualization
Try this simple visualization to activate your third eye chakra:
Sit quietly and close your eyes
Visualize a violet or indigo light at your third eye center
See it expanding and growing brighter
Let it fill you with clarity and inner vision
Journaling Prompts
Self-reflection is a powerful way to tune into your inner knowing. Consider these prompts:
How much silence is there in your life for the whispers of intuition to be heard?
When was the last time you acted on your intuition?
Do you look outside yourself for answers? What does it feel like to ask—and answer—your own questions?
Affirmations and Mantras
Positive affirmations and chanting can help reprogram the third eye chakra. Examples include:
Affirmation: “I recognize the need for silence and stillness in my life.”
Mantra: Chanting OM can help to activate, balance, and heal the third eye chakra. It is known to help stimulate the pineal and pituitary glands, which can enhance intuition and spiritual perception.
Meditation
Meditation can calm the mind and bring awareness to the third eye chakra.
I’ve created a six-minute guided meditation to help you.
Final Reflections
Balancing the third eye chakra can help reduce stress, improve self-esteem, and strengthen relationships. When you begin to trust your inner vision, you may experience a deeper connection to your path, your choices, and your spiritual self.
Remember, healing is a journey, and awareness is the first step.
What are your favorite ways to feel connected?
I’d love to hear about your experiences in the comments!
Blessings,
Briana
