Facilitating Nervous System Regulation & Airway Health
As the earth softens and awakens this spring, our bodies often begin searching for expansion
too. Spring reminds us that healing does not always happen through force. Sometimes healing
begins with creating space — space to breathe deeper, rest softer, and reconnect with the
rhythms of nature and the body.
At Touch of Nature Healing, I often see how airway tension, nervous system dysregulation,
fascial restrictions, and stress patterns are deeply connected throughout the entire body.

The body functions as one interconnected system. Tension underneath the tongue can influence jaw positioning. Jaw tension can influence the neck. Restrictions through the diaphragm, abdomen, pelvis, and even down into the feet may affect posture, breathing patterns, and overall regulation.
When the body is holding stress patterns for long periods of time, breathing may become less efficient.
This can sometimes present as:
● Mouth breathing
● Snoring
● Sleep disturbances
● Shallow breathing
● Clenching
● Forward head posture
● Difficulty settling the nervous system
● Restless sleep in children and adults

For children, this may look like:
● Sleeping with the mouth open
● Dark circles under the eyes
● Restlessness
● Sensory overwhelm
● Difficulty calming
● Tension through the face or body
Craniosacral Therapy (CST) offers a gentle approach that supports the body’s natural ability to unwind and regulate. Through light-touch techniques, the nervous system may begin shifting from protective patterns toward greater ease and balance.
Nature & The Nervous System
One of the most beautiful parts of spring is that nature encourages regulation:
The sound of birds.
Bare feet in the grass.
Sunlight on the skin.
Fresh air filling the lungs.
Watching leaves move in the wind.
These experiences are not “extra.” They are deeply regulating experiences for the human
nervous system.
When we slow down outdoors, breathing patterns often soften naturally. The jaw relaxes. The
diaphragm moves more freely. The body receives sensory input that helps create safety and
grounding.
Nature can support:

● Deeper breathing patterns
● Nervous system regulation
● Sensory integration
● Emotional regulation
● Better sleep rhythms
● Improved body awareness
● Family connection and co-regulation
Sometimes healing begins with simply sitting beneath a tree and allowing the body to remember safety again.
Fascial Connections Throughout the Body
The fascial system is a continuous web of connective tissue that surrounds muscles, organs,
nerves, and structures throughout the body. Because fascia is interconnected, restrictions in one area may influence another. This is why we often look beyond just the mouth or airway alone when we see patterns of airway tension.
Patterns can involve:
● Tongue tension
● Jaw positioning
● Neck tightness
● Rib cage mobility
● Diaphragm restrictions
● Abdominal tension
● Pelvic alignment
● Foot stability and grounding
The body adapts in incredible ways to compensate and protect.
Gentle bodywork, nervous system support, movement, hydration, outdoor regulation, and
restorative rest can all help support healthier patterns over time.
Spring Nervous System Reset Ideas

Here are a few gentle ways to support regulation:
🌿 Morning sunlight within the first hour of waking
🌿 Barefoot grounding in the grass
🌿 Humming or soft singing outdoors
🌿 Nasal breathing walks
🌿 Watching birds or clouds without distractions
🌿 Gentle stretching while listening to nature sounds
🌿 Family outdoor quiet time without screens
🌿 Slow diaphragmatic breathing under the trees
A Gentle Reminder
Healing does not always need to be rushed. The body often responds beautifully when given:
● Safety
● Space
● Supportive touch
● Rest
● Nature
● Connection
Spring is an invitation to soften, breathe, and reconnect with the wisdom already within the body.
Thank you for being part of the Touch of Nature Healing community.
With gratitude,
Briana
